A Soldier's Love

Recently I had a conversation with a good friend of mine about our American soldiers in Iraq. She told me about a young man from her hometown who had died due to a suicide car bomb. There was the usual funeral with full honors. I figured this was the end of the story, but then she continued to say that a group of rioters came and tried to ruin this already miserable and somber day. The people rioting were called Westboro Baptist Church. I was pretty confused, thinking "why would a church riot at a funeral?" This did not make sense to me.

My friend began to explain to me what they were about. They are a hate group who is against anybody who is gay (liking somebody of the same sex). They also believe that everybody who is in the service is gay. You can find more information at their website www.godhatesfags.com.

However this was not the end of my fury; we watched a video online with Julie Banderas from FOX NEWS who argued quite well with a representative from the group.

This video infuriated me a great deal. I do not know what your beliefs are, but I have many friends and family who give there time to protect this great country. I do not know how this person can sleep at night. I have never been so outraged at everything somebody has ever said until now. What are your feelings on this? Do you feel this is un-American? I would really like to know your thoughts on this because this is something that I would like to spread word about. This hate group out of Kansas travels to funerals all over the country to protest. If I ever come into contact with them, I do not know what I will do, but I can guarantee it will NOT be pretty.

  1. This is so inappropriate. I cannot believe that their are people out there that could be so cynical as to protest at a soldiers funeral. One's sexual orientation should not matter to others, especially if that individual died protecting our freedom. Julie Banderas had a very valid argument against the woman from that protest group. That video disgusts me, that hate group believes in ridiculous ideas. Like Banderas said in the video, that lady "should not be proud to call herself and American". What she was saying was complete garbage and for a protest group to riot at a funeral is a very low thing to do. Funeral's are sacred and very meaningful for the families affected and to be disrupted by such rude signs and chanting is absolutely ridiculous.

  2. I'm so glad yall agree! I am so outraged on this I'm almost at a loss for words; the words that do come to mind are not pretty or good words either. I also kept thinking how this person could be "American" when this is the most anti-American thing I have ever seen. Going to a funeral to protest this is lower than low. You cannot get any worse; this is a time of deep sorrow that should be peaceful and without interuption. I also question how this lady and her family can even begin to believe how they are doing "right" in God's eyes. She says we are going to hell along with every Catholic (which I am), Jew, bisexual, homosexual, Islam, Buddhist, and Hindu, but I would believe the exact opposite. I believe she should go to hell with the way she is behaving herself. It is an unspeakable act that she is committing and she and everyone associated with her should feel ashamed.

  3. Exactly! In the bible it says in Romans 2:1-3, "therefore, O all of you who pass judgment on others, you have no room for excuse. As you pass judgment on someone else, you are actually condemning yourself in sin; for, as you judge a person, you are doing the same things as well. We know that God will righteously judge those who practice this type of act. Do you think that while you judge those who do things like that that you, o person who does the same things yourself, can escape the judgment of God?". Basically what this is saying is that only God has the power to decide who is going to Heaven and who is going to Hell. This lady thinks she is living a Christian lifestyle by doing this, but in turn, she is actually sinning and teaching others to sin in this same way. This lady is completely messed up and what she is doing is creating a cult of bogus beliefs. The Christian thing to do is to love thy neighbor and by leading a hate group she is essentially doing the complete opposite. I don't know how this lady thinks she is in the right. She is clearly going against the Bible in several different ways, yet she is yelling about others who are "going against the Bible". She is a complete hypocrite and I am appalled that there are people out there that believe this junk. It's like Hitler and the Nazis all over again.

  4. SensibleSooner, you said, "One's sexual orientation should not matter to others, especially if that individual died protecting our freedom." I could not agree more, however, this group does not only protest gays, but anyone (which happens to be everyone in the world but their mere 70-something followers) who does not believe the way they do. There is no indication that this troop was gay, just to clarify. They spread word that ALL servicemen are "fags." They are slandering retarded idiots.

  5. Comp2ou is correct; from the research I have done they are not specifying actual homosexuals, but rather inferring that everybody in the service are. Not only is this appalling, but it is incorrect.

I love how you pulled out that bible verse because I was thinking the exact same thing. She and her followers (which by the way the majority is her family) are complete hypocrites. God is the only one who can decide whether you go to heaven, hell, or purgatory. Not she who knows nothing and spits out complete nonsense.

  6. There is a great video about a student at a anti-hate protest (the protest protesting the WBC protest) who uses the WBC to rally citizens and students to donate for great causes. I can't remember which one's, but basically different equal sexual rights groups. For every donation he received he sent Fred Phelps a card thanking for his support. He actually raised a lot of money too.

I do think the best thing the American nation can do is simply ignore. They deserve their freedom of speech, whether or not it is absolutely an insane message. We fought for those rights. If no attention is given to them then their message of hate will not spread. (My best friend is in Iraq right now serving his country) Also, I would just like to thank the Patriot Guard Riders for everything they do!

  7. Monte99 I agree everyone is entitled their right to free speech, but they have absolutely NO right going to a funeral of somebody they have NEVER met and know NOTHING about. We were obviously raised differently because you are referring to "turning the other cheek", but I was always taught to stand up for what I believe in. Yes it has gotten me into trouble sometimes, but I feel at least I am not being walked on. I don't feel we are "spreading their message of hate" like you said. Instead we are raising awareness of what idiotic people out there are doing. It should not be done, and if they want to believe that whatever, but they can stay home and leave the rest of the American people alone.
